The uncertainty and the feeling of not knowing what to expect, can take your breath away.

Change comes in many forms and the bona fide truth is, things aren’t going back to the way they were.

Sometimes you choose the change and welcome the transition for a different experience; a new possibility.  On the other hand, change may come unexpectedly and unwanted, resulting in an influx of many tumultuous emotions.

Regardless of how you are feeling, life carries on.  Looking back and yearning for the way things used to be, only prolongs the agony.  Your family and your work still require your attention.

How do you keep going without letting your emotions take over your life?  How do you avoid getting trapped in an emotional ghetto?

Welcome the change and look forward.  See the possibilities and focus on what is positive.

Relationships may break down but you have good friends and a wonderful career.  You may lose your job however you have a diverse range of skills that another employer may be seeking.  Losing someone you love is devastating, yet you have so many memories to cherish.

There is no doubt that when sudden change is upon you, there is a period of time to digest and process it.  That’s part of being human.  However, once you have taken the time to grasp your new circumstances, you become open to the possibilities. Acceptance will not passively arrive, it’s your actions that will be the means to your transformation.

During times of change, my favourite doctrine is the Serenity Prayer.  It really helped me to put things into perspective.

The Serenity Prayer

Grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
The Courage to change the things I can; and
The Wisdom to know the difference.
 I wish you peace, strength and serenity during your times of change.
